A family photo book, everyone you love on one shelf.

Family photos are scattered across five phones and three WhatsApp groups. We gather the best of them into one printed book that the whole house can pick up, argue over and keep.

  • 12 to 20 pages, one story for the whole family
  • Photos and captions sent on WhatsApp
  • Preview before printing, delivery across India

Why a family photo book is a gift the whole house uses

Most Indian families have a photo problem. The wedding album is in one cupboard, the childhood pictures are with a grandmother in another city, and the last ten years live on phones that get replaced every few years. Nobody has seen the whole story together, and older relatives rarely see the phone pictures at all. A family photo book gathers it in one place, chosen by you and arranged so each generation appears where it belongs.

A printed book needs no tech skills. A grandfather can open it without a password, children can point at the cousin they met only once, and guests who come over for chai naturally pick it up from the table. Ten minutes later half the room is telling stories. It also keeps working through phone upgrades, lost passwords and full storage, which is what a family archive should do.

It is an easy gift to justify for a whole household, where tastes differ but everybody likes seeing the people they love. A book of ordinary days, festivals and trips suits a mother, a brother, a mother-in-law and a nine-year-old equally well. That is why a family photo book works for birthdays, anniversaries, Diwali and housewarmings, and why you can print the same book for more than one home.

It is also a way to capture people while you can. Voices, handwriting and the exact way a grandmother sat at the head of the table fade from memory faster than we expect. A dated, captioned book keeps those details readable for the next generation. Start while the stories are still being told aloud at dinner, and let the family photo book be the reason everyone finally sends their pictures.

Family photo book ideas by occasion and relationship

The same book takes a different shape depending on who it is for and why you are making it.

A family photo book for parents

Parents rarely ask for gifts, yet they have kept every school photo of yours. Build a book around them: their early marriage pictures, your childhood, the house you grew up in, and recent snaps with grandchildren. Give it on their anniversary or at Diwali, and end with a page where you thank them in your own words.

For grandparents and the older generation

Pick fewer, larger photos and caption each with a name and relation, such as Nani with her sisters, 1978. Elderly relatives enjoy naming faces aloud, so the book becomes a conversation. It also records who stood where at weddings, which younger cousins can learn from. Our gift for grandparents page has more angles.

A family photo book for a new household

When a bride joins a household or a new baby arrives, a book that introduces everyone helps. One page per person, with a photo, a nickname and a favourite food, tells the newcomer who is who. It works as a warm welcome gift and then sits comfortably in the living room.

A reunion or festival keepsake

Weddings, Diwali visits, Eid gatherings and summer holidays pull far-flung relatives into one house. Take the group photo, then ask one person to collect everyone's best shots afterwards. A single family photo book from the reunion, printed for each branch of the family, keeps the day alive long after the suitcases are unpacked.

A gift when someone is moving away

Siblings heading abroad, a cousin posted to another city, a child leaving for hostel. Give them a book of the home they are leaving: the dining table, the pet, the street outside. It is lighter to carry than a framed print and far more comforting on a lonely first night away.

Remembering someone who has passed

A family that has lost someone can gather their photos, favourite sayings and small habits into a gentle tribute. Keep the tone loving rather than heavy: include pictures of them laughing and the dishes they made. Many families find that making it together is itself a comfort, and the book becomes a shared reference.

What to include in a custom family album

A good family book has structure. Decide the pages before you start choosing photos.

A family tree page

A simple tree spread opens the book well: grandparents at the top, their children in the middle, grandchildren along the bottom, each with a small portrait and name. It helps young children understand how everyone is connected and settles arguments about who is whose cousin. Our blog explains how to build one step by step.

One page per person

Give each member a portrait with a short line: a nickname, what they are known for, a favourite saying. Include the family dog too. This works especially well in families of six to ten people, and it makes the family photo book feel personal rather than a pile of group pictures.

Wedding and early-years photos

Ask the oldest generation for their wedding photos and send clear scans or flat, well-lit photographs, even if the prints are creased or faded. Seeing parents and grandparents as young adults is what many readers linger over. Place those pictures beside a recent photo of the same couple, and keep the captions simple.

Festivals, food and traditions

Add pictures of the family at Diwali, Holi, Onam, Pongal, Eid or Christmas, and the recipes or rituals that go with them. A page on who makes the sweets, or who always lights the first diya, records customs that otherwise live only in memory and will matter to children later.

Trips and ordinary days

Include the family holiday, but also the unglamorous scenes: Sunday lunch, cricket on the terrace, grandparents asleep with the newspaper. Candid photos are what people linger on. Mix wide group shots with close-ups so every page has rhythm. Our guide to family photo book ideas and captions lists themes to choose from.

Messages from relatives

Reserve one or two pages for short notes from different family members, even three lines each. Collect them in your family WhatsApp group and send them together. A handwritten note can be photographed and placed in the layout, which keeps each person's handwriting, a detail families treasure years later.

What to write in a family memory book

Captions turn photos into stories. Short, specific lines work best, especially for a book many people will read.

Name everyone, with relation and year

Write who is in each photo and how they are related: Chacha Rajan, Dadi's youngest son, Jaipur 1996. Family books last for decades, and in thirty years nobody will remember whether that was a cousin or a neighbour. A one-line label now saves your grandchildren a lot of guessing.

Use the family's own words

Every household has its nicknames, sayings and silly rules. Use them. Captions like Papa's never-ending tea or Bunty and the broken window make your family photo book unmistakably yours. Resist the urge to polish everything into formal English; the real voice of the family is what makes people laugh.

Add one short story per spread

Choose a few photos and add two or three sentences about what happened: the monsoon you were stuck at Lonavala, or the year Dada insisted on cooking. Stories are what children ask to hear again. Limit yourself to one per spread so the layout stays clean and readable.

Ask elders to dictate

If grandparents find writing difficult, record a WhatsApp voice note while they describe an old photo, then type out their words or send the note to us. Their phrasing will make the page feel alive. Mention the language you want at the start, and check spellings with them at preview.

Keep a warm, steady tone

Avoid sarcasm about relatives, especially where older people will read. Gentle teasing is fine; old quarrels have no place. If the family has tension, choose neutral, happy photos and let the captions focus on shared meals and festivals. The book should feel like an invitation to sit together.

Finish with a line to the future

Close with a note addressed to the children, or to the family at a future reunion. Something like: open this on Diwali ten years from now and see who has changed. For more wording, browse our photo book caption ideas and what to write in a memory book.

How to order a family photo album online in India

There is no website checkout. The whole process runs on WhatsApp, in clear steps.

Choose a page count for your family photo book

Pick the size that suits your family: 12 pages ₹1,199, 14 pages ₹1,399, 16 pages ₹1,599, 18 pages ₹1,799 or 20 pages ₹1,999. A small family fits in 12 to 14 pages, while a joint family with several generations will want 18 or 20. If you are unsure, message us your photo count and we will suggest a size.

Gather photos from everyone

Make one person the coordinator and create a WhatsApp group where relatives add pictures. Ask for originals sent as documents, because compressed forwards look soft when printed. Scans of old prints are welcome if clear. Collect more than you need, then choose together. Our note on how many photos to use helps with the shortlist.

Plan the page order

Before sending, jot down the sequence: family tree, grandparents, parents, each branch, festivals, trips, messages. Even a rough list on paper helps. Tell us the mood you want, such as classic, playful or simple, and mention anyone who must appear. We then arrange the photos in a clean layout.

Send captions and names

Share the names, relations, years and short stories for each photo, typed or as voice notes. Spell names exactly as the family writes them, particularly for regional languages. Clear information at this stage avoids most corrections later, and it lets the designer place each caption next to the right face.

Review the design preview

We send a preview on WhatsApp for you to check. Forward it to a couple of elders, because they spot wrong names and dates quickly. Ask for changes, from swapping photos to fixing captions. Nothing is printed until you approve it, and there is no payment on the website.

Printing, delivery and extra copies

Once approved, your book is printed and delivered across India. We do not promise fixed delivery days, since timing depends on your city and the print schedule, so ask for an estimate and start early for festivals. If several branches of the family want a copy, ask us on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions.

What is a family photo book?

A family photo book is a printed book that collects your family's photos, names and short stories in a designed layout. Unlike a loose album, it follows a plan, such as generations, years or festivals. Ours have 12 to 20 pages and are designed by the studio from the photos and captions you send on WhatsApp.

How much does a photo book for the family cost in India?

Our books start at ₹1,199 for 12 pages and rise by two pages at a time to ₹1,999 for 20 pages: ₹1,399 for 14, ₹1,599 for 16 and ₹1,799 for 18. The price depends on page count, not on the number of relatives. Anything extra is confirmed on WhatsApp before you approve the design.

How many photos should a family photo book have?

For 12 to 20 pages, roughly 30 to 60 photos work well, depending on how many share a page. Large portraits need space, while candid group shots can sit together. Send more than you need and we will help you choose. Sharp, well-lit images matter more than quantity.

Is a family photo book a good gift for parents?

Yes, because it holds their own story. Include their wedding photos, your childhood and the grandchildren, with warm captions, and time it for their anniversary or Diwali. For other options, see our ideas for personalized gifts for parents and choose what suits them best.

Can I make a family tree photo book?

Yes. Start with a tree page showing grandparents, parents and children with a small photo and name each, then add pages for every branch. Send us the relationships and names clearly and we lay it out. For large families, 18 or 20 pages give each branch enough room.

Can relatives in different cities contribute photos?

Yes. Create a shared WhatsApp group and ask everyone to send their favourite pictures to one coordinator, who forwards them to us. Photos sent as documents keep their quality. Relatives abroad can join the same way, and the finished book can be delivered to any address in India.

How do I order a family photo book online?

Message us on WhatsApp with your page count, photos and captions. The studio designs the layout, sends a preview for your approval, then prints and delivers across India. You can also use our contact page to ask questions before you start.
