Why good packaging design services matter for a small brand

For most small brands, the pack is the first thing a customer touches. On a shop shelf, a marketplace listing photo or a courier box opened at home, the packaging carries your name and your promise before anyone reads a word of your website. Good packaging design services make that first look consistent, readable and believable, so a new product feels like it belongs to a real brand.

The design is only half the job. A beautiful file that ignores the printer's dieline, bleed or safe margin can come back with cut-off text, shifted colours or a barcode that will not scan. We design with the production side in mind, so the artwork that leaves our desk is the artwork your printer can actually run without guesswork. Asking for the dieline early is the simplest habit that saves reprints.

Labels add another layer. Food, cosmetics and packaged goods usually need specific information on the pack, such as ingredients, net quantity, batch details, price and licence numbers. We lay this out clearly so it is legible and tidy. The exact mandatory content depends on your product category, so please confirm requirements with the relevant authority or your advisor. This is not legal advice.

Ragnar Studios is a full-service digital agency in India, so packaging does not sit in isolation. We can match it to your logo, brand colours, website and social creatives, which keeps a customer's experience steady from the Instagram ad to the unboxing. Pricing is a custom quote after we understand your product and the quantity you plan to print. Share the product and print plan, and we will tell you what the work involves.

What our packaging design services include

Every project is scoped to your product, but these are the building blocks.

Box and carton artwork

Front, back, sides and flaps designed as one connected surface, not separate pictures. We plan where the logo, product name, key benefit and usage details fall when the box is folded, so nothing hides in a crease or gets cut at the edge. Suitable for mono cartons, rigid gift boxes, mailer boxes and similar formats.

Pouch and sachet design

Stand-up pouches, zip pouches and sachets have seals, tear notches and gussets that affect where artwork can sit. We design around those zones and keep text away from the seal area. Useful for snacks, spices, tea, supplements, pet treats and other products sold in flexible packs.

Bottle, jar and tin labels

Wrap-around and front-and-back labels for bottles, jars, tins and tubes, sized to the container you give us. We think about curvature, so text near the edge does not disappear around the bend. Product name, variant, quantity and the required small print are arranged in a clear order of importance.

Stickers and seals

Round, square and custom-shaped stickers for sealing boxes, closing pouches, marking variants or adding a thank-you touch to parcels. We prepare the cut line your printer needs, so the sticker die cuts cleanly. They are an affordable way to make plain packaging look branded. Share the shape and size you want.

Print-ready file setup

We set up artwork with bleed, safe margins, correct colour mode and outlined fonts, as your printer prefers. Barcodes and QR codes are placed with enough white space to scan. Because every printer has its own preferences, we ask for their specification sheet first and match it rather than guessing.

Variant and range systems

If you sell several flavours, sizes or scents, we build one flexible layout and then adapt it for each variant with colour or illustration changes. This keeps the range looking like a family on the shelf and makes it much faster and cheaper to add a new variant later.

Who needs packaging design services

Here are the kinds of businesses that usually ask us for packaging design services.

Food and snack brands

Home-kitchen brands, namkeen and sweet makers, spice sellers and cloud kitchens who are moving from plain bags to branded packs. We design clear labels with space for the details food packaging needs. Check the current rules for your category with the relevant authority, since requirements differ by product.

Beauty and wellness startups

Soaps, oils, creams, candles and supplements often start in a small batch and grow quickly. We design labels and boxes that look credible in a small size, with room for ingredients, usage notes and batch information. We can also keep the look consistent across your whole range.

D2C and Shopify sellers

Online brands where the unboxing is part of the product. Mailer boxes, tissue stickers, thank-you cards and product cartons can all be designed together, so a parcel looks like it came from a real brand and not a reseller. This also gives customers something worth photographing.

Handmade and craft businesses

Jewellery, candles, pickles, art prints and gift hampers need packaging that feels personal but is still practical to produce in small runs. We keep designs simple enough for short print quantities, and help you choose labels or stickers over full printed boxes when budget is tight.

Manufacturers and wholesalers

Businesses that already have products on shelves but ageing or inconsistent packaging. We can modernise the artwork, align SKUs under one system and prepare files for your existing printer, so production continues without a long gap between the old design and the new one. We keep the existing brand recognisable where it is worth keeping.

Gifting and seasonal sellers

Festival boxes, wedding favours, corporate gift sets and limited editions need artwork on a deadline. We plan the design, confirm the printer's lead time with you early and prepare files accordingly. Seasonal themes can reuse your core brand so the gift pack still looks like yours.

How our packaging design services work, step by step

A simple process that keeps print problems out of the final file.

Understand the product and shelf

We start with what you sell, who buys it and where it will be seen: a retail shelf, a marketplace photo, a gift counter or a parcel. We also look at your logo, colours and any competitor packs you like or want to avoid, so the direction fits your brand and category.

Get the dieline first

A dieline is the flat template of the pack showing cut, fold and glue lines. Your printer or packaging supplier provides it for their exact material and size. We design on that template, which is why we prefer to know your printer before artwork begins, not after approval.

Concept and layout

We build the layout hierarchy first: brand, product name, variant, key claim, then small print. Colour, type and imagery come next. You see the concept applied to the flat dieline and, where useful, on a simple mockup, so you can judge how the pack will look when assembled.

Content and label details

We place the text you supply, such as ingredients, net quantity, price, address, licence number and customer care details. Please verify the mandatory information with the relevant authority or your advisor, as we do not give legal advice. We make sure it is readable at the printed size.

Revisions and approval

You review the design, share feedback and we refine it within the revision scope agreed in your quote. We recommend checking spelling, numbers and barcodes carefully at this stage, because errors are cheap to fix on screen and expensive once thousands of packs are printed.

Final files and print handover

Once you approve, we prepare print-ready files in the format your printer asks for and share source files if agreed. We can answer your printer's file questions, such as fonts, colour mode or resolution. Printing itself is arranged separately and paid to the printer, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

How we take your packaging brief

This is exactly how an enquiry becomes a project.

Share your product

Tell us what you sell, the pack type and the quantity you plan to print. Mention your printer if you have one, and send your logo if you have it.

Get your quote

We reply on WhatsApp, phone or email with questions and a custom quote once we understand the pack type, number of designs and any illustration needed.

Design on the dieline

We design on your printer's dieline, share the layout for review and refine it within the agreed revisions.

Print-ready handover

After approval we deliver print-ready files in your printer's format and support you with file questions. Printing is arranged with your printer.

Pricing, timeline and what affects cost

There is no fixed price list for packaging design services. Packaging varies too much, so we quote after understanding scope.

Custom quote after the brief

Ragnar Studios does not publish a fixed rate for packaging design services because a single sticker and a full range of boxes are very different jobs. Share your product, pack type and quantity on WhatsApp or the form, and we send a quote once we understand the work involved.

Number of packs and variants

The biggest cost driver is how many separate designs you need. One label is simple. Six flavours, three sizes and a gift box is a system. Building a flexible template and adapting it is usually more efficient than designing each pack from scratch, and we will suggest that approach.

Pack complexity

A flat sticker is quicker than a custom-shaped box with window cut-outs, or a pouch with multiple panels. More panels, special shapes and heavy information content mean more design time. Special finishes such as foil or embossing also need extra artwork preparation, which we scope separately.

Illustration and photography

Typographic and colour-led packs are lighter on design time than packs with custom illustrations, product photography or detailed patterns. If you already have photos or an illustration style, tell us. If you want something drawn from scratch, that is scoped as additional work in the quote.

Printing and materials are separate

Printing, paper or board, lamination, pouch stock and sticker material are paid to your printer, not to us, unless we agree otherwise in writing. Ask your printer for a quote with minimum order quantity. Design cost and print cost are different budgets, and planning both avoids surprises.

Timeline and revisions

We do not promise fixed delivery dates in advance, since timing depends on scope, how quickly you share the dieline and content, and how many review rounds you need. We will give you a realistic estimate with the quote, and the earlier we get your printer's specification, the smoother it goes.

Frequently asked questions.

Still have a question? Ask the studio directly.

What do packaging design services include?

They cover the artwork for your box, pouch, bottle label or sticker, laid out on the dieline and prepared as print-ready files. Depending on the project, this can include layout, colours, typography, illustration, a mockup and variant adaptations. Ragnar Studios confirms the exact scope in your quote, so you know what is included before we start.

What is a dieline and why does it matter?

A dieline is the flat template showing where a pack is cut, folded and glued. Artwork must sit correctly within it, with bleed beyond the cut line and text kept inside safe margins. Your printer or packaging supplier usually provides it, and designing on the right dieline avoids cut-off text and misaligned graphics.

How much do packaging design services cost in India?

Pricing depends on pack type, number of designs, variants, illustration and revisions. Typical market prices vary widely, so treat any figure as a rough guide. Ragnar Studios gives a custom quote after understanding your product and quantity. Printing and materials are separate and paid to the printer.

Do your packaging design services include printing?

Design and printing are separate jobs. We prepare print-ready files in your printer's required format and help with file questions. Printing is arranged with your printer and paid to them, unless we agree otherwise in writing. Ask us what applies to your project before you place a print order.

Can you add FSSAI details and other mandatory label information?

We can lay out the information you provide, such as ingredients, net quantity, price and licence numbers, so it is clear and legible. Mandatory content depends on your product category, so please confirm requirements with the relevant authority or your advisor. We do not give legal advice or certify compliance.

What files do I receive at the end?

You receive print-ready files in the format your printer asks for, commonly PDF, and we can share editable source files if agreed in the quote. Preview images for your website or social posts can be discussed in the quote. Tell us your printer's requirements early so we prepare the right format.

Can you design packaging if I do not have a logo yet?

Yes. We can create a logo and basic brand identity first, then design the packaging so everything matches. This is quoted as separate work. If you already have a logo, send the best quality file you have, and we will check whether it needs cleaning up for print.
