Why Shopify store development matters for your business

Anyone can start a Shopify trial in an afternoon, so a basic store is not hard to launch. The harder part is a store that looks like your brand, explains products clearly, loads quickly on a mid-range phone and takes payment without friction. That gap is what Shopify store development covers. It turns a default theme and a few products into a shop that people trust enough to order from.

Most Indian shoppers browse on mobile, often arriving from Instagram, WhatsApp or a Google search. They decide in a few seconds whether the shop feels genuine. Clear photos, readable prices, visible delivery information and an easy checkout all help. We design with that mobile-first habit in mind, and we check the store on mobile screens, not only in a desktop preview.

Shopify gives you hosting, security and a dependable checkout, so you do not manage servers. What it does not give you is judgement. Which theme suits a catalogue of 40 items versus 4,000? Which apps are worth paying for monthly, and which only slow the store down? We make those decisions with you, and we explain them in plain language so you stay in control of your own shop.

If you already sell somewhere else, a rebuild or migration can feel risky. We plan it step by step: products, customers, pages and links are mapped before anything moves, so your existing work is not lost. We have built 900+ websites and Shopify stores, and the main lesson is simple: a clear brief at the start saves the most time and money later.

What our Shopify store development covers

Every project is scoped to your catalogue, but these are the building blocks we usually work with.

Theme customization

We start from a solid Shopify theme and adapt it to your brand: colours, fonts, spacing, header, footer and homepage layout. The aim is a store that feels designed for your business, while staying easy to update yourself when you add new offers or seasonal banners.

Custom sections and layouts

Need a size guide block, a comparison table, a before and after strip, a lookbook or a WhatsApp enquiry banner? We build custom sections that you can move around in the theme editor, so your team can change text, images and ordering later without asking a developer to edit code every single time.

Product page design

Product pages do the selling. We structure images, variant pickers, price, delivery notes, trust points, a reviews area and descriptions so shoppers find answers quickly. We also set up size, colour or bundle options cleanly, so the cart shows exactly what the customer chose and fewer orders arrive with confusing details.

Apps and integrations

We choose apps for a real purpose, such as reviews, upsells, wishlists, GST invoices, abandoned cart reminders or WhatsApp chat. We keep the list short because each app adds cost and weight to the store. Paid app subscriptions are billed by the app provider, not by us, and we flag them during scoping.

Payments, shipping and taxes

We configure payment gateways such as Razorpay or PayU where they suit your plan, UPI and cash on delivery options, shipping zones and rates, courier or aggregator connections, and GST settings. We confirm with you what each gateway needs from your side before we begin.

Migration to Shopify

Moving from WooCommerce, WordPress or another platform? We map your products, variants, collections, customers, pages and key URLs, import them, check them line by line, and set up redirects so old links keep working as far as the source platform allows. What can move depends on your export options, and we confirm that first.

Who Shopify store development is for

These are the situations where a custom-built Shopify store usually makes sense.

Brands selling their own products

If you make or source your own products, such as apparel, jewellery, home decor, skincare or packaged food, your store should carry your brand story. Custom layouts and product pages help you stand apart from shops using the same untouched template, and they give repeat customers a clear reason to remember your name.

Offline shops going online

A retailer with a loyal local base can take orders across India with a well-organised Shopify store. We help plan the catalogue structure, delivery zones, COD choices and a WhatsApp link, so existing customers can still ask questions the way they already do while new customers can order by themselves.

Sellers outgrowing a basic store

Maybe your first store was set up quickly and now feels cluttered, slow or hard to manage. We review what you have, suggest what to remove, and rebuild the parts that matter, such as navigation, collections and the checkout path. You decide how much to change, and the quote reflects exactly that.

Businesses leaving another platform

If your current platform feels heavy to maintain, or plugins keep breaking after updates, moving to Shopify can simplify daily work. We plan the move step by step so your catalogue, customers and existing page links are carried over as far as the source platform allows, and we agree the plan before touching anything.

Dropshipping owners ready to scale up

If you started with a ready-made dropshipping store and now want a stronger brand, custom pages or a better theme, we can build on top of it. Starting from scratch instead? Our fixed-price plans are described on the Shopify dropshipping store setup page, and they suit a first store very well.

Service sellers and digital product creators

Not every Shopify store sells physical goods. Coaches, course sellers and creators can use it for digital downloads, gift cards or simple paid offers. We set up the store, order emails and policy pages to match what you actually sell, and we tell you early if an idea needs an extra app or a paid add-on.

How we run Shopify store development

A simple, visible process so you always know what is happening and what we need from you.

Discovery and scoping

We begin with a short conversation on WhatsApp, phone or email. We ask about your products, customers, current store, competitors you admire and your budget range. From that we write a scope that lists pages, features and integrations, so the quote reflects real work rather than a guess made on a single call.

Structure and wireframes

Before choosing colours, we map the shop: collections, menu, filters, homepage blocks and the path from landing page to payment. You see a simple layout plan first, which makes feedback easier and avoids expensive changes after the design is already built. Approving the structure first also keeps later rounds of revisions short.

Design and theme build

We apply your brand, set typography and imagery, and build or customize the sections agreed in the scope. We keep the code tidy and use the theme editor wherever possible, so your team can manage banners, text and featured products on its own later, without needing us for routine content changes.

Products and content setup

We add or import products with clean titles, variants, collections and basic search-friendly descriptions. If you provide photos and details we use them, and if content is missing we tell you early. Bulk imports are checked sample by sample before going further, so a formatting error does not spread across the whole catalogue.

Payments, shipping and testing

We connect payment gateways, shipping rates and tax settings, then place test orders on mobile and desktop. We check emails, discount codes, cart behaviour, speed and policy pages. Any gateway approval needed from the provider depends on their own timelines and on the business documents you submit to them.

Launch and handover

We help connect your domain, go live and walk you through the admin: adding products, handling orders, editing sections and reading basic reports. Support after launch depends on what we agree in writing, so you know exactly what is covered, what is not, and how to reach us when a question comes up.

How we take your Shopify store brief

This is exactly how an enquiry becomes a project.

Share your brief

Fill in the form or message us on WhatsApp with your store link, product types and what you want changed or built. Photos, a competitor you like or a rough sketch all help.

We review and clarify

We look at your current store if there is one and ask a few focused questions about features, payments and catalogue size. No obligation at this stage.

Receive your quote

We send a written scope with price, what is included, running costs you pay directly and a planned schedule. You approve it or ask for changes.

Build, review and launch

We build in stages, share previews for your feedback, test orders, then launch and walk you through managing the store.

Shopify store development pricing, timeline and cost factors

We do not publish a price list for custom builds, because two Shopify stores can need very different amounts of work.

Custom quote after requirements

Pricing for custom Shopify store development depends on scope, so we quote after we understand your catalogue and features. The quote lists what is included, what is optional and what is outside the project, so there is no confusion later about extras. If the scope changes mid-project, we tell you the effect on cost first.

Design depth

A lightly customized theme takes less effort than a fully custom design with new sections, animation and several unique page templates. Tell us how much of the look must be unique to your brand and how much can follow a clean standard layout, and we will show you what each choice means for the quote.

Catalogue size and complexity

Forty simple products are quicker than 800 products with sizes, colours, bundles and metafields. Data cleaning also takes time when product information arrives in mixed formats, so tidy spreadsheets and ready images make a noticeable difference to the effort involved, and therefore to the quote you receive from us.

Apps, integrations and migration

Each integration, such as ERP, inventory sync or custom checkout rules, adds work. Migration adds mapping, importing, checking and redirects. As a rough guide only, typical market quotes in India vary widely from project to project, and any range you read online is an indicative market figure, not a Ragnar quote.

Running costs you pay directly

The Shopify subscription (from about ₹1,499 a month), paid apps, domain, payment gateway fees and any ad spend are paid to the platforms and providers themselves. They are separate from our development fee, and we list the likely ones during scoping so you can plan a realistic monthly budget before the project starts.

Timeline

We do not promise a fixed delivery date before seeing the scope. Timelines depend on catalogue size, design depth, how fast you share content and approvals, and gateway verification. We give you a planned schedule with the quote and update you if anything changes, so surprises stay small and are discussed early.

Frequently asked questions.

Still have a question? Ask the studio directly.

What does Shopify store development include?

It covers planning the store structure, customizing or building the theme, designing product pages, adding products, setting up payments, shipping and taxes, testing orders and launching. Depending on scope it can also include custom sections, app setup and migration. We list every item in your written quote.

How much does Shopify store development cost in India?

There is no single price. Market quotes in India vary widely, from small setups to large custom builds, so treat any range as a rough guide. At Ragnar Studios the cost depends on design depth, catalogue size, integrations, migration and timeline. We give a custom quote after understanding your requirements.

Can you migrate my WooCommerce or other store to Shopify?

Yes. We map your products, variants, collections, customers and key pages, import them, check the results and set up redirects for important links. Exact data that can move depends on your current platform and export options, and we confirm this before starting.

Do you build custom Shopify themes or customize existing ones?

Both are possible. Many stores do well with a well-chosen theme customized for brand and layout. Where you need unique sections or page templates, we build those inside the theme. We explain which route suits your catalogue and budget before you commit.

Will my Shopify store accept UPI, cards and cash on delivery?

Shopify stores in India can usually offer UPI, cards, wallets and COD through supported gateways and settings, depending on the gateway's approval and your plan. We configure what you choose and test it, but provider approvals follow their own rules and timelines.

What is the difference between this and your dropshipping plans?

The dropshipping plans are fixed-price packages for people starting a dropshipping business, with products and supplier sync included. This service is custom development for brands, retailers and existing stores that need tailored design, features or migration. If dropshipping is your goal, look at our Shopify dropshipping store setup plans first.

Do I pay for Shopify and apps separately from Shopify store development?

Yes. The Shopify subscription, paid apps, domain, payment gateway fees and ad spend are paid directly to the respective providers. Our fee covers the development work. During scoping we list the running costs we expect so you can plan the monthly budget.
